Let's face it - Starbucks has some truly DELICIOUS drinks. We don't think anyone can make a good argument otherwise, seriously! The problem is, there are very few speciality drinks at Starbucks that are suitable for a low sugar or low carb lifestyle. 😭
Sure, they have a couple sugar free syrups that you can add to drinks, but when fun seasonal or specialty flavors roll out, we feel a little left out. In fact, a classic Starbucks Iced White Mocha drink has almost 50 grams of sugar in it for a 16 ounce size! WOW. No thanks! 😅 We'll stick to making ours at home.
Top this off with some whipped cream and a little bit of sugar free white chocolate drizzle if you're feeling fancy, and we're in business. We'll show you in a few simple steps how to make this delicious drink.
What should we take on next? Maybe the infamous Starbucks iced caramel macchiato or iced chocolate mocha? Let us know in the comments! In the meantime, you should check out this hot miel with honey and cinnamon or this delicious dalgona coffee! 😍

☕️Ingredients:
Here's what you need to make this delicious drink!
✏️Ingredients list:
- Espresso or strong brewed coffee- No espresso machine? No problem. You can use strongly brewed coffee, or instant coffee if you prefer. Essentially, you just need strong coffee here. At least, we think so. This drink is on the sweet side, so some bitter coffee helps balance it out.
- Milk of choice - Anything you prefer here is totally fine. We used a low carb whole milk by Fairlife. Anything goes here, though we often prefer creamier.
- White chocolate chips - We eat a refined sugar free diet, so our top choice is Lily's stevia sweetened chocolate chips. Use your favorite chips to suit your diet!
- Vanilla extract - To add a warmth and depth to this drink.
- Homemade white chocolate sauce* - Totally optional, but it's really easy to make, with some white chocolate chips and a little butter or coconut oil. More on this later!
Tips For The Best Iced White Chocolate Mocha:
- Want to keep your drink colder for longer? Brew the espresso a little bit ahead of time and pop it in the fridge. Cold coffee or espresso will keep the ice from melting as quickly.
- Want this drink a little sweeter? Taste the white chocolate milk before assembling the drink. Slowly whisk in powdered sweetener to the milk to dissolve alongside your chocolate chips, sweeten to taste.
- Please taste as you go for best results! This drink is totally customizable to suit your preference.
- To substitute for instant coffee, make sure to use a dark roast and follow instructions according to the package to make the equivalent of 1.5 - 2 ounces of espresso.
- To use strong brewed coffee, use about 4 ounces of strong brewed coffee to substitute for 2 ounces of espresso.
Please note: We used strong brewed coffee instead of espresso & we also made two servings of the drink, so you will notice that in the quantity difference in the process photos.
How To Make A Homemade Sugar Free Iced White Mocha:
Step 1: Make the White Chocolate Milk:
Gently melt the white chocolate chips and milk over medium-low heat with the milk for around 7-10 minutes, stirring very frequently to prevent the white chocolate from sticking or burning. (Double boiler method is preferred here).
Stir until the white chocolate is fully dissolved in the milk. The temperature on a candy or quick read thermometer should read between 140 and 150°F. Once fully dissolved, set aside to cool briefly.
Step 2: Assemble the Drink
In a glass, pour in espresso or strong brewed coffee over ice.
Pour the white chocolate milk over top.
Step 3: Garnish & Serve
Top with whipped cream, and white chocolate drizzle if desired!
*To make a homemade white chocolate sauce, combine: 2 ounces white chocolate chips, 3 ounces heavy whipping cream and ½ tablespoon salted butter over medium-low heat in a saucepan. Whisk frequently until completely combined.
Make Ahead & Storage:
- We do not recommend combining the ingredients together to make this drink until you're going to drink it. Sadly, it doesn't save well.
- You can however make the white chocolate sauce ahead of time, as well as the espresso or strong brewed coffee.
Store bought substitutions:
- If you want to avoid melting chocolate chips on your own to make a white chocolate milk, there are a few prepared options available. We actually haven't tried these flavors ourselves, but we have really liked some of the other sugar free sweeteners these companies make. Let us know if you try them yourselves!
Frequently Asked Questions:
Want to make your own whipped cream? No problem, it's easy!
You just need really cold heavy cream, and a little bit of powdered sweetener. A splash of vanilla and a small pinch of salt make it even more like the Starbucks version.
Instructions:
1. Whip 1-2 ounces of cold heavy whipping cream with about 1-2 tablespoons of powdered sweetener (to taste), ¼ teaspoon of vanilla extract & a pinch of salt with a milk frother or hand mixer until stiff peaks form. This should take about 60-ish seconds. That's it!

- 2 ounces sugar free white chocolate chips
- 4 ounces coconut milk (any milk or milk substitute you prefer will work)
- 2 ounces espresso (or strong brewed coffee)
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- To make the white chocolate milk, gently melt the white chocolate chips over medium-low heat in a saucepan or with a double boiler method (double boiler preferred) with the milk for around 7-10 minutes, stirring very frequently to prevent the white chocolate from sticking or burning, until the white chocolate is fully dissolved in the milk. Notes
- Feel free to add more milk to suit your preference with this drink. We like the white chocolate flavor to have more of a prominent sweet flavor, so we use a smaller amount of milk here. Keep in mind that the milk you use (and amount) will impact the carb and sugar count.
- Cold coffee or espresso will keep the ice from melting as quickly.
- If you want this drink to be a little sweeter without adding more chocolate. Taste the white chocolate milk before assembling the drink. Slowly whisk in powdered sweetener to the milk to dissolve alongside your chocolate chips, sweeten to taste.
- We do not recommend combining the ingredients together to make this drink until you’re going to drink it. Sadly, it doesn’t save well.
- You can however make the white chocolate sauce ahead of time, as well as the espresso or strong brewed coffee.
