Homemade white chocolate sauce (makes about 3-4 servings)
- 4 ounces white chocolate finely chopped
- ½ cup milk
Iced white mocha (for 1 drink)
- 2 ounces brewed espresso chilled (or half a cup of strong brewed coffee)
- 1 cup milk
- 2-3 tablespoons white chocolate sauce to taste, homemade or storebought
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract optional
White chocolate sauce (makes multiple servings)
Add the chopped white chocolate to a bowl. Set aside. Heat the milk on the stovetop or in the microwave until hot, but not boiling. Pour the hot milk over the chopped white chocolate and leave it alone for a couple of minutes.
4 ounces white chocolate , ½ cup milk
Gently mix until the chocolate is fully melted and the ganache is nice and smooth. The mixture will be runny at first, but it will thicken as it cools.
White chocolate milk
Meanwhile, in a separate beaker, combine milk, vanilla extract, and white chocolate sauce to taste.
1 cup milk, ½ teaspoon vanilla extract, 2-3 tablespoons white chocolate sauce
Assemble the drink
In an ice-filled glass, add in the white chocolate milk, followed by the espresso. Stir to combine.
2 ounces brewed espresso
Top with optional whipped cream, more white chocolate sauce, and white chocolate shavings if desired. Enjoy!
Store leftover white chocolate sauce or milk in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 4-5 days. If the white chocolate sauce solidifies, reheat it gently at 50% power in the microwave in 15-second increments, stirring in between until it's smooth again.
- Chop the white chocolate up into small pieces. This will help it melt evenly.
- Don't scorch the milk! Once the milk is bubbling on the edges, it's ready. Don't let it boil, or burn the bottom of the pan.
- Once the milk is poured over the chocolate, let it sit for a few minutes before mixing it. This helps it melt gently, and completely.
- Cool the espresso. Allow the brewed espresso to cool down before mixing it with ice to prevent the ice from melting too quickly. This helps retain the strong coffee flavor and the drink's cold temperature.
- Use big ice cubes. This will avoid diluting the drink too quickly. You can also use coffee ice cubes for a more intense coffee flavor.
- Adjust sweetness to taste. Adjust the amount of white chocolate sauce according to your preference. Start with less and add more as needed. Remember that the sauce is sweet, so the amount will dictate the sweetness of your drink.
- Ensure the white chocolate sauce has a pourable consistency before using. If you're making the white chocolate sauce in advance, remember to warm it up slightly before using it in your drink, especially if it has thickened in the fridge.
