The Best Restaurants We Ate At In Chicago – March 2018 Edition

There are so many delicious restaurants in Chicago. Sometimes it can be hard to know where to choose. Here’s the best restaurants we ate at in Chicago – March 2018 Edition. We love to do a round-up of the amazing restaurants we were able to try! We should disclose that we were hosted on most of these occasions, meaning the meal was complimentary.

Strings Ramen

We aren’t strangers to Strings Ramen, and after they opened up a location Lakeview, we’ve spent a lot of time there eating our favorite ramen in the city. We dropped by in March to try out a seasonal special – curry ramen, which was complete with filet mignon, bean sprouts, menma, scallions, red ginger & wood ear mushrooms. These guys are always up to something, so stay on the lookout for new specials.

Check out this gallery for all the photos we’ve collected over the years.

90 Miles Cuban Cafe

90 Miles Cuban Cafe is another spot that we are super familiar with and love. 90 Miles is a great spot to get together with family and friends. The lively, bustling atmosphere, amazing food and service make it one of the best spots in town. It’s also BYOB, so it makes it even easier to celebrate. You can’t go wrong here, we really love the ceviche and don’t forget to order a cafe con leche!

Octavio Cantina & Kitchen

It’s so exciting for a new spot to open up in Andersonville, because it feels like our backyard! Octavio Cantina & Kitchen is a gorgeous space home to some delicious modern Mexican fare. They offer lunch and dinner, as well as brunch 7 days a week. They have one of the largest selections of tequila and mezcal in Chicago as well. This place is also open late, so you can get your fix around the clock! We tried a variety of drinks, appetizers and even a whole red snapper. The food was fresh and flavorful, while the drinks were tasty and strong simultaneously! Love this spot, can’t wait to come back to try brunch ones of these days too.

Alice and Friends’ Vegan Kitchen

We were first introduced to Alice and Friends’ Vegan Kitchen when we were preparing for the Edgewater Dinner crawl (you can reach more about that here) and this neighborhood vegan restaurant really blew us away. We are pretty much as carnivorous as they come, but we didn’t miss meat at this place. Everything is flavorful and made with love. They have all kinds of asian dishes, desserts, and shakes. One of our favorites was the vegan mango lassi, made with coconut milk. We will be back for those!

Punch Bowl Social

Punch Bowl Social just opened up in the West Loop, and we are super excited to have this spot as an addition to the neighborhood! Not only can you eat and drink here, but they offer tons of fun activities like bowling, virtual reality, skee ball, darts and more. In terms of food, we loved the lobster bacon fries and Almond Joy milkshake! They have tons of cocktails and non-alcoholic housemade sodas too.

Here’s some more photos.

The Ashburn

Many wouldn’t consider all the delicious food and drink that The Ashburn, located in Rosemont at the Loews Hotel has to offer. That’s a mistake! They are rolling out new dishes every season with the Loews “Flavor” series, that highlights local companies around the country. One of our favorite bites was this strawberry cheesecake made with local to Chicago Rare Bird Preserves! Highly recommend this place if you find yourself near the airport.

Frio Gelato

Frio Gelato has multiple locations – 2 in Evanston and 1 on Southport in Chicago. It’s no wonder why these guys do so well. Argentinian gelato goes over very well here. It’s not overly sweet, but super satisfying. They offer some unique flavors, like Malbec wine & a Sambayon, an egg custard. They’re famous for their alfalatos, cookies stuffed with gelato and then dipped in chocolate. You can’t go wrong with a gelato flight either, that way you can try numerous flavors! Our favorite was the mascarpone and raspberry, and the cheese and honey.

La Cocinita

La Cocinita is a hidden gem located in Evanston, Illinois. They have a food truck that roams around Chicago too. Rumor has it they are opening both a restaurant and a food truck in New Orleans, Louisiana this April as well! This place is such a treat. If you’re a fan of South American food, this Venezuelan restaurant will satisfy your cravings. We loved the patacones, arepas and the cheese empanadas. You can tell the food here is made with care.

Forum 55

Lunch in the loop will never be the same with this amazing food court. Forum 55 is an amazing food hall with tons of fun vendors have a home here, and they have a couple pop-ups that rotate to help new businesses get exposure. There’s BBQ, burgers, a deli, ramen, poke, and more. Their epic salad bar will actually make you crave salad for lunch. With fresh, local (whenever possible) vegetables to be found there as well as additions like a huge charcuterie selection. Open Monday thru Friday!

Here are all of the photos.

Michael Jordan’s Restaurant

Well, we officially got to check out Michael Jordan’s newest restaurant, located in Oak Brook Illinois. The Michael Jordan’s Restaurant has many of the same options as the Steakhouse downtown but has lots of budget friendly items too, like salads, burgers and steak frites. We enjoyed the shrimp hush puppies, thick cut bacon, and couldn’t resist a slice of the gigantic 23 layer chocolate cake!
