❤️Why We Love This Recipe
- Familiar, easy ingredients. This homemade ranch recipe is made with packets of Hidden Valley Ranch seasoning (affiliate link), believe it or not! Other than that, everything else can be found at any grocery store!
- True Wingstop taste. Most people who have tried it would agree that Wingstop truly has the best ranch. We started wondering if we could just buy tubs of Wingstop ranch dip to take home. Once we learned the secret about using Hidden Valley Seasoning, we knew we could make it ourselves at a fraction of the price.
- Quick & easy. It's ready in 5 minutes or less, with no special equipment needed. All you need is a bowl and a whisk. It couldn't be simpler to make!
🥛Ingredients
Here are the ingredients you will need to make the iconic Wingstop recipe. Keep in mind, that all of these items are 'musts' and if you don't have them, well, you can still make ranch, it's just not the Wingstop version. 😉
- Good quality mayonnaise. As this is the primary ingredient in the sauce, choose something that has great flavor. We love using Duke's mayonnaise for this, which is an iconic mayo in the American South. You can also use Hellman's, or any high-quality mayo!
- Buttermilk. This is what gives Wingstop Ranch that iconic tangy flavor, as well as to thin out the mixture and make it more on the runny side.
- Packets of dry Hidden Valley Ranch seasoning. This is the essential ingredient! While we normally make a lot of things from scratch, some things are truly what gives certain foods their iconic taste, and these seasonings packets are one of them!

✨Substitutions & Variations
There are not a whole lot of substitutions to be made in this recipe, because there are only 3 ingredients. However, we can suggest a few!
- Wingstop ranch without buttermilk. If you don't have buttermilk on hand, you can substitute it for an equal amount of milk, with 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice or vinegar per cup of milk used. This will help give the ranch a slight tang, though it's not quite the same as the real deal! You may want to add in a bit of sour cream as well to help capture that tangy taste.
- Herbed. Add in some fresh herbs to taste for a little extra flair. Dill, parsley, and chives work great.
- Lemony. Lemon juice and zest aren't traditional ingredients but could add some nice flavor.
- Extra salt. If you'd like, add a bit of salt to taste. We find the ranch packets are salty enough, but it's up to you.
📖Instructions
In a bowl, combine the mayonnaise, most of the buttermilk, and the ranch packets. (Image 1)
⭑Pro tip: Leave some of the buttermilk out to start, then add as needed to reach your desired consistency.
Whisk to combine until smooth, add more buttermilk if desired, and taste and adjust seasonings if necessary. (Image 2)
Chill in the fridge for 30 minutes to an hour.
Serve and enjoy! It's perfect for dipping with hot honey chicken wings, on with air fryer waffle fries, these corn ribs, or even these air fryer shishito peppers.
Try it drizzled on a salad, like this shrimp salad!
✨Tips & Tricks
- If you prefer a thinner dressing, add extra buttermilk and continue whisking until the sauce reaches the right consistency for you.
- We do recommend using the Hidden Valley Brand of ranch packets, as this will give it the reliable, standardized Wingstop ranch flavor. Using a homemade ranch seasoning is definitely possible, but just keep in mind that the Hidden Valley ranch packets are actually used by Wingstop!
- Chill the ranch before enjoying. Sure, you can eat it right away, but letting the ranch chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to an hour before digging in really helps the flavors come together. This ranch gets better and better as it sits!

Sorry to burst your bubble but buttermilk is used in the recipe. And I can also tell you that it certainly is not high quality mayonnaise nor is heavy cream used. You at least got the Hidden Valley Ranch packet right though. This is from someone who worked at wingstop for 7 years by the way. Otherwise, a pretty good recipe. Just not in any way wingstop

Also no sour cream
