While not a traditional margarita (we'll talk more about what that means later), it's truly delicious and easy to make! Maybe you'd rather place this spicy cocktail in a blender and blend. Or, you prefer to add ice to a glass with a salt rim and drink it on the rocks. Either way, you're going to love this drink.

Ingredients:
- Strawberries - We clean and halve the strawberries and then muddle them in the bottom of a cocktail shaker.
- Lime juice - Fresh squeezed lime juice is essential!
- Orange juice - We use freshly squeezed orange juice instead of triple sec in this recipe, so it's not a true margarita, we suppose. Triple sec is nearly 11 grams of sugar and 225 calories in a single ounce. Yikes! No thanks. Compare that to fresh squeezed orange juice which has only 2.6 grams of sugar, and 3.25 grams of carbs per ounce. We like that a lot better! Read more about the health benefits of fresh orange juice here.
- Sugar free jalapeño simple syrup - Not a traditional ingredient in a regular margarita. Since we skip triple sec in our margarita, we use a jalapeño sugar free simple syrup to sweeten this cocktail. Not to mention this simple syrup is amazing, and adds the jalapeño flavor and slight spice in this cocktail!
- Tequila - Use your favorite variety here, and to taste. We go a little heavier with the tequila in this drink because again, we skip the triple sec.
- Kosher salt + lime zest - For the rim! We also add it to our drink for a bit of salt, and extra lime flavor.
How To Make A Sugar Free Strawberry Jalapeño Margarita:
Prepare your jalapeño simple syrup ahead of time so that it has time to cool.
Add strawberries to the bottom of a cocktail shaker and muddle.
Add ice to the cocktail shaker.
Prepare kosher salt on a plate to rim your glass. We add a little bit of fresh lime zest for extra flavor. Add some salt to your cocktail shaker.
Pour in fresh lime juice and orange juice.
Add in jalapeño simple syrup and tequila.
Shake for 30 seconds and then double strain into an ice filled glass rimmed with lime salt. Garnish with jalapeño, a strawberry, cilantro and a lime wedge or wheel. Enjoy!
Tips For The Best Jalapeño Strawberry Margarita:
- You can use regular sugar free simple syrup in place of the jalapeño simple syrup if you prefer. You could potentially muddle a bit of fresh jalapeño in the bottom of the glass alongside the strawberries.
- Blend this recipe with a chunk of jalapeño in the blender if you want, instead of using the cocktail shaker method. You would need to supplement with some kind of simple syrup with this method.
- You could prepare these cocktails (in a larger batch) about 1 day in advance if you prefer.
- Double strain your drink into an ice filled glass to avoid any strawberry chunks in your drink.
- If you don't mind carbs or sugar, use agave nectar or honey in your simple syrup.
A Small Warning About Allulose:
Allulose can cause GI distress in some people (including myself) if consumed in large quantities. We're not authorized to give advice about what that magic number is in terms of consumption. Different people have different tolerance levels to allulose. You can read more about possible side effects here.
In my personal experience, I'm fine if I enjoy between 1-2 ounces of our jalapeño simple syrup at any given time. Any more than that and my stomach isn't happy for a couple of hours.
History of The Margarita:
The history of the margarita is really uncertain to my knowledge! I tried really hard to find a conclusive piece of information about who invented, and when.
Many different people claim to have invented the margarita between 1930 - 1950, so there's still no clear inventor. This was at a time when tequila was becoming popular in the US after prohibition. You can read more about what the Smithsonian has to say about it here.
These days, we see tons of different variations with different fruits and vegetables being made!
