✨Substitutions & variations
Here are a few suggestions on additional flavors to try, or simple variations to this recipe.
- Add more fun garnishes. If available to you and in season, elderflower blossoms would make a stunning garnish! They aren't very easy for us to find in Chicago, so we opted for baby's breath. A sprig of mint, basil, or thyme would also accompany the drink nicely.
- Add fruity flavor. Add a spoonful of your favorite berry jam, or even pear puree for a nice added touch of fruity flavor.
- Swap the citrus. Feel free to swap lemon for lime juice if you prefer.
- Use sparkling wine instead of soda water. For an extra boozy twist, top the drinks with sparkling wine like cava, prosecco, champagne, or even Moscato if you like sweet drinks.
🔪Prep work
- Squeeze lemon juice.
- Cut lemon rounds.
- Measure out all remaining ingredients.

✨Tips & tricks
- Sweeten to taste. If making this drink for the first time, add more simple syrup to suit your personal preferences.
- Stir before enjoying. We love to layer this drink in the glass, as it creates a really cool presentation with the Empress gin, but make sure to mix it up with a bar spoon before enjoying it, or all the gin will be at the top of the glass.
