    • Bone-in ham - Boneless ham can also be used, but we love using bone-in for even more flavor, and supremely tender meat. You can also use the leftovers to make soup.

    • Rum or bourbon - Optional.
    • Honey - Something pourable and runny.
    • Dijon mustard
    • Pineapple juice - Reserved from a can of pineapple rings.
    • Orange juice
    • Lemon juice
    • Seasonings - Black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, allspice, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, ground cloves, nutmeg, and ginger.
    • Worcestershire sauce
    • Maraschino cherries - Optional.

    ✨Substitutions & variations

Here are a few suggestions on additional flavors to try, or simple variations to this recipe.

    • Brown sugar - Add brown sugar in addition to honey for even more sweetness and flavor.
    • Spicy - Add more cayenne pepper for more heat in the glaze.
    • Add more warm spices - Add more nutmeg, allspice, cloves, or ginger for more of a subtle warmth.
    • Swap bourbon for rum - You can even use spiced rum if you like.
    • No alcohol - If you want rum flavor without the alcohol, use rum extract.
    • No cherries - Don't love maraschino cherries? Feel free to leave them off!

    🔪Prep work

    • Preheat the oven to 325°F.
    • Score the ham with a diamond pattern to help the glaze get into every part of the ham.
    • Measure out all remaining ingredients.

Cover ham tightly with aluminum foil in the roasting pan. Bake for 12-15 minutes per pound, (so about 2 hours for an 8-pound ham), basting the entire ham with the glaze at the bottom of the pan every 30 minutes or so.

In the last 30 minutes, remove the foil to let the pineapples and glaze can caramelize. Let the ham rest for 20 minutes or so before cutting in. Serve with the reserved glaze.

Pro tip: The cooking time will depend on the size of the ham.

    ✨Tips & tricks

    • Sweeten to taste. If you prefer, you can always add more honey for a sweeter glaze.
    • Keeping the ham juicy. It’s best to cook ham slowly at a lower oven temperature to keep it from drying out. Make sure the ham is tightly wrapped with aluminum foil.
    • Serve with glaze. Any leftover glaze can be served with the ham.
    • Cooking the ham. Smoked ham is already fully cooked, so really all you're doing is reheating it. With that being said, a quick-read thermometer is a good way to tell if a ham is heated evenly. Insert the the thermometer near the center of the ham. Once the internal temperature reads 140°F degrees, it's definitely ready to go.
