Equipment

  • highball glasses
  • bar spoon
  • mixing glass or mason jar

Ingredients

  • 1.5 ounces Midori melon liqueur
  • ½ ounce lime juice
  • ½ ounce pineapple juice
  • ½ ounce Empress Indigo gin
  • ½ ounce Empress Elderflower Rose gin

Instructions

  • Add 1.5 ounces of Midori, ½ ounce of lime juice, and ½ ounce of pineapple juice to a mixing jar. Stir to mix.
  • Add crushed ice cubes to a tall glass, like a highball glass. Pour in the green Midori, lime juice, and pineapple mixture.
  • Pour in ½ ounce of Empress Indigo Gin slowly over the top of a bar spoon into the glass. This will help it "float" and create a distinct layer. Repeat the same process with the ½ ounce of Elderflower Rose gin. Add more ice if needed.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • Use a clear glass. Opt for tall and clear glass to showcase the layers effectively!
  • Use crushed ice. Skip the regular ice, and get crushed ice if you can. Crushed ice helps the layers look more distinct.
  • Pour slowly and steadily. Use a spoon, the back of a spoon, or a bar spoon to pour each layer slowly and gently over the previous one. Pouring too quickly will mix the layers.
  • Use a spoon to pour! To help disperse the liquid gently, hold a spoon upside down, just above the surface of the drink, and pour the new layer over the back of the spoon. This slows down the pour and minimizes splashing.
  • Layer by density. Plan the order of your layers based on the density of the liquids, with the heaviest (most dense) at the bottom and the lightest at the top. In this case, that means we start with the Midori layer, and then end with the gin. In general, it's best to start with syrups and liqueurs, then end with spirits.
