Lemon water
- 1 ¼ cups fresh squeezed lemon juice 10 ounces
- 4 cups cold water
Lavender simple syrup
Add the water, lavender, and butterfly pea flowers to a pot. Bring to a boil, then immediately reduce to a simmer for 5-10 minutes. Add in the optional squeeze of lemon to make the water turn from blueish to purple!
1 cup water, 1.5 tablespoons dried culinary lavender buds, 1 tablespoon butterfly pea flowers, 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
Next, strain the lavender water mixture into a separate container through a metal sieve. Discard the flowers. Add the lavender water mixture back to the pot over low heat. Add in the sugar, and stir until the sugar dissolves, then remove it from the heat. Allow it to cool down completely before adding this drink.
1 cup sugar
Lemonade
Combine lemon juice and cold water in a pitcher, and stir to combine.
1 ¼ cups fresh squeezed lemon juice, 4 cups cold water
When it's time to serve, fill glasses with ice. Add the lemon water, followed by lavender simple syrup to taste! Stir to combine, and watch the subtle color change happen!
Garnish with a wheel of lemon, and a sprig of dried lavender. Enjoy!
We don't recommend storing the lemonade after it's fully mixed up and poured over ice, but it can be stored in the fridge for a couple of hours before the ice melts too much. You can make the components in advance before mixing up the drinks though. The lavender simple syrup can be made and stored in the fridge for at least 3-4 weeks in an airtight container, or in the freezer for up to 1 year. The lemon water should be used within 3-4 days and should be kept in the fridge in an airtight container.
- Use fresh ice. Use fresh ice if possible! Old ice that has been sitting at the back of the freezer may have had time to absorb scents from other food, and nobody wants lemonade that tastes like shrimp! 😂
- Use fresh lemon juice. This is non-negotiable! There is just no way this recipe would taste nearly as good if you use anything other than fresh lemon juice.
- Make sure all of your liquids are cold. We know it can be hard to wait for the simple syrup to cool down, but make sure everything is nice and cold or else you will just melt the ice in your drink and water it down.
- Sweeten to taste. Add as much or as little lavender simple syrup as you'd like. If making this drink for the first time, add less, taste, and then add more to taste.
