The Best Restaurants We Ate At in Chicago – February 2018 Edition

We wanted to do a roundup of The Best Restaurants We Ate At in Chicago – February 2018 Edition. We are super fortunate to do what we do. We feel the need to disclose that we were hosted on all of these occasions, meaning that the establishments took care of the bill. A side note – please tip your servers! Especially if you are being provided a complimentary meal. All opinions are our own, we put together this list because we wanted to. We were traveling most of February, so we will put together some posts about the food we ate when we were traveling, too! Also, let us know what you think of our rebrand in the comments below.

Gibson’s Italia

Most people around Chicago already know that Gibson’s steak is highly regarded. So when Gibson’s Italia opened, people (like ourselves) couldn’t wait to get a table. Gibson’s Italia is quickly climbing to become one of Chicago’s hottest restaurants, and we see why. The sleek, elegant, 3-level space overlooking the Chicago river & skyline is dazzling, and that alone is a great reason to visit. Guests can enjoy delicious Italian dishes & pasta, seafood, an extensive wine list and of course, steak. Pro tip: don’t underestimate coming by for lunch. The views of the city are fantastic and the lighting is perfect.

Koi

We live in the Edgewater/Rogers Park neighborhood, so it still baffles me why we don’t head up to Evanston to dine more often. Let’s just say dining at Koi one night for their bi-monthly sake & wine pairings with sushi dinner changed that. A super elegant atmosphere, with incredible service & food. This place is truly a gem that has stood the test of time. Koi has been in business for over 14 years. We can’t wait to come back to Koi to check out their dim sum brunch sometime too!
Here’s all the photos from our visit.

Wrigley BBQ

You probably remember us raving about Wrigley BBQ before in January’s post, but for good reason. We are pretty convinced that owner & pitmaster Mitch can do no wrong. Not only that, but he’s a super nice and funny guy. Every time he has a special he wants us to try, we are always thrilled to come in. This time we tried some veal shank, shrimp and scallops for the first time. Everything was perfectly cooked and seasoned, as usual. This place has an amazing brunch on Sundays until 2:30 pm. Highly recommend stopping by any day of the week tho!

The Growling Rabbit

You might have realized that this neighborhood spot is one of our favorites since we are always posting about it. We did a little piece on them in this article too. The menu at The Growling Rabbit is contemporary American comfort food with lots of fun spins on the menu. Almost everything down to the syrups in the coffee drinks are made in house. Most things on the menu can easily be made vegan & gluten free, too. The coffee drinks made by our favorite barista, Jordan Reinhardt are some of the best in the city. He is constantly whipping up exciting creations. We can’t wait to see what they have in store next!

Anteprima

Last nights whitefish entree at @anteprimachicago for @avillechamber restaurant week was superb. 😍 Until March 4th anteprima & many other Andersonville restaurants are offering prix fixe menus. This one was $30 for a 3 course meal including a starter, an entree and a dessert. You can add on $20/person for wine pairings as well. Are you planning on attending Andersonville Restaurant Week? We visited this Italian gem in Andersonville at the end of the month for Andersonville Restaurant week. We can’t believe it’s the first time we have been to Anteprima when it’s so close to our house. The flavors here were amazing, and they have great deals too. Outside of restaurant week, they have $32 three course specials Sunday – Thursday every week. The octopus we tried was incredibly tender. I was convinced after my trip to Tuscany a few years ago I would never find octopus so tender in the states ever again. Boy am I happy to be wrong. Anteprima is open for dinner everyday at 5 pm. We’d recommend making a reservation, as it’s a small space that is full of happy neighborhood patrons very often.

Forbidden Root

Forbidden Root just celebrated their 2 year anniversary & they’re thriving. Their restaurant & brewpub serves seasonal, fresh dishes that pair beautifully with their brews. This awesome space in the west town neighborhood is a converted cinema. They even have tubes in the ceiling that come straight from the brewery, to the bar & then right down into the taps so you get the freshest beer possible every time. We got to check out the pilot beer dinner, which is 5 beer dinner with 4 course prix fixe dinner for $45 created in partnership with their Chef & Brewer. The food was inviting & full of flavor, and naturally we left with a 6 pack of beer. They will be hosting beer dinners every month, with the next one taking place on March 14th. It’s first come, first served, so get their early! Find out more info here.

Petit Margeaux

This adorable cafe inside of the Waldorf Astoria is charming and tasty. Petit Margeaux serves light bites like tartines and delicious salads all day. Their pastries will certainly wow you, and the staff loves to chat and make you smile. They are open for lunch until 2 pm every day, and they re-open at 4 pm for dinner. We highly recommend this place!

Bub City

Bub City is one of two Lettuce Entertain You Restaurants we dined at in February. These guys really know how to do BBQ, burgers & wings! As you guys may know, we are testing out burgers all over the city to find our favorites, and this burger was insanely delicious. We can’t say enough good things about the burnt ends, the wings & all the delicious sides. A great option for delicious BBQ in River North!

Nando’s Peri Peri

Chicago North Shore is hosting restaurant month and Nando's is included! (The Old Orchard Mall location in Skokie!) This month, Nandos will be doing a 3 course Prix Fixe for $20.00! It was great hanging with everyone! Have you guys had Nandos?? Their Peri Peri sauces are excellent! #nsrm18 #chicagonorthshore 📷by @minusoneofficial . . . . . . . . . . . #eatonchicago #fabfoodchicago #hertastylife #mychicagopix #chicagofoodauthority #eaterchicago #eatdrinkdochi #redeyechicago #yelpchicago #bestfoodchicago #chicagogrammers #chicagofoodmag #chicagofoodauthority #chicagofoodanddrink #chieats #chicagofoodscene #skokie #choosechicago #eattheburbs #chigram #312food #chicagofoodgirl #likefoodchicago #infatuationchi #nomchicago #explorechicago #chicagofoodies #alwayshungrychi

Nando’s is one of our favorite chains of all time. Their grilled chicken and sides are to die for, every time. It’s always a solid place that we can depend on. When Soo Park of @fabfoodchicago invited us to a dinner at Old Orchard Shopping Center in Skokie for North Shore restaurant week, we happily accepted. Did you know that Nando’s serves drinks and fantastic desserts too? We didn’t realize this, as we are creatures of habit always ordering the half a chicken with fries and garlic bread, but we fell in love all over again.

Hub 51

We had a fabulous lunch at Hub 51, another Lettuce Entertain You restaurant, to try out some of their delicious dishes. I haven’t been to Hub 51 since my college days & it was Chamere’s first time. We were very pleased with everything. Hub 51 is a contemporary American restaurant located in the River North neighborhood. They are open for lunch & dinner during the week and brunch & late night on the weekends too. One of our favorite bites we tried were the Ahi Tuna burger & the Shaki-Shaki tuna. You can grab something light here, or eat a burger, too. If you can, please save room for their insane carrot cake for dessert. We were blown away!
